European integration

Since 1 May, 2004 the Slovak Republic has been a member of the European Union. Entry to the EU has brought many changes to functioning of the country, as well as new commitments and opportunities. The Slovak Republic has committed itself to exercise the law and follow the principles of the EU in its territory while fully participating in their formation. Our citizens, physical persons, can take advantage of the EU citizenship, legal entities have free access to the single market, EU programmes and funds. Appropriately given information on the character, structure, institutions and functioning of the European Union helps people intrested get acquainted with the issues of European integration and get fully involved into its operation. Experience from integration processes can, in turn, help other countries striving for the EU membership.
